Basic Knots
Square knot
Bring the left-hand end of the thread over the right and around.(figure 1)
Cross right over the left and go through the loop (figure 2)
Surgeon’s knot
Cross the left-hand end over the right twice. Pull the ends to tighten. Cross the end that is now on the right over the left, go through the loop and tighten. (figure 3)
Overhand knot
Make a loop at the end of the thread. Pull the short tail through the loop and tighten. ( figure 4)
Half-hitch knot
Pass the needle under the thread between two beads. A loop will be formed as the thread is pulled through. Cross over the thread between the beads; sew through the loop and pull gently to draw the knot into the beadwork.(figure 5)
